Overview

The Compliance Specialist supports the development, implementation, and ongoing oversight of Central Health’s Compliance Program under the general supervision of the Director of Compliance. This role collaborates with staff across all departments and disciplines to promote a strong organizational culture of ethics, integrity, and accountability. The Compliance Specialist is responsible for assisting with investigations, managing the incident reporting process, developing and maintaining policies, and delivering compliance education and training. This position monitors regulatory changes, supports risk assessments, and helps ensure that organizational practices remain aligned with applicable federal, state, and local laws, as well as internal policies. Serving as a key liaison to clinical and operational departments, the Compliance Specialist plays a critical role in advancing the effectiveness and efficiency of Central Health’s compliance initiatives.

Responsibilities

Essential Functions:

  • Assist with managing and implementing programs, policies, and practices to ensure that all departments within Central Health are compliant with applicable federal, state, and local laws, regulations, and internal policies.
  • Assist in the administration of the Central Health Policy Manager.
  • Assist in developing, maintaining, and revising policies and procedures.
  • Ensure accessibility and staff understanding of current policies.
  • Educate new employees about compliance and ethics during the onboarding process.
  • Coordinate and deliver ongoing compliance training sessions for staff, contractors, and vendors.
  • Track training completion and support efforts to improve compliance awareness.
  • Monitor changes to regulatory guidelines and requirements and coordinate the implementation of changes into daily program activities including automated tools.
  • Identify and implement changes in process and procedures that enhance compliance program efficiencies.
  • Provide support with risk assessments including facilitating interventions and monitoring outcomes.
  • Work with Human Resources and Joint Tech in order to plan, create, implement, and maintain the annual compliance training programs.
  • Assist in preparing regular reports for executive leadership and the Board of Managers.
  • Serve as a compliance liaison to designated departments and clinics.
  • Support initiatives that promote a strong organizational culture of compliance and ethical conduct.
  • Develop and maintain favorable internal relationships, partnerships with co-workers.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to maintain up-to-date knowledge of standards, laws, rules, regulations, and best practices in healthcare.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and adhere to all HIPAA guidelines and regulations.
  • Working knowledge of healthcare-related laws and regulations, including CMS, Texas Medicaid regulations, Stark Law and Anti-Kickback statutes, and OIG compliance requirements. 
  • Understanding of health care operations in a public or safety-net system. 
  • Ability to uphold and ensure compliance and attention to all organization policies and procedures as well as the overall mission and values. 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. 
  • Critical thinking/problem solving. 
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and compliance tracking software. 
  • Ability to develop and deliver presentations and training. 
  • Interpret and apply legal and regulatory information to practical operations. 
  • Work independently, manage time effectively, and meet deadlines. 
  • Demonstrate professionalism, integrity, and sound judgment in complex situation.

Qualifications

MINIMUM EDUCATION: Bachelor's Degree (higher degree accepted) Healthcare Administration, Public Health, Business, Compliance, or a related field


MINIMUM EXPERIENCE:

  • 5 years of healthcare compliance, and policies and procedure experience.
  • 5 years Proficient knowledge of current healthcare regulations, HHS, state and federal guidelines and compliance best practices.

Required Licenses and Certifications:

  • CHC (Certified Healthcare Compliance)
