The Central Health CHW Apprenticeship Program is a unique "earn and learn" opportunity for individuals seeking to become Certified Community Health Workers (CHWs) in Travis County.
As a full-time Central Health employee, apprentices will receive an hourly pay, benefits, and hands-on training while completing the coursework required for CHW certification as required by the Texas Department of Health and Human Services.
CHWs play a critical role in bridging healthcare access gaps, supporting patients, and advocating for underserved communities. In this position, apprentices (or trainees) will learn to provide non-medical support services, working under the guidance of experienced CHWs and healthcare professionals.
This paid CHW apprenticeship includes approximately 520 hours of in-person instruction and externship experience, ensuring apprentices (or trainees) gain the knowledge and skills needed to excel as CHWs. Specifically, this is a 13-week program and on-site attendance is mandatory between the hours of 8am-5pm.
The apprentice will provide direct and indirect patient care. Applicants are expected to travel between different sites during the training period.
Please note: Upon successful completion, apprentices will be eligible to apply for permanent employment within Central Health or a community-based facility based on exisiting job openings.
