Overview

The Recreation Coordinator is responsible for planning, organizing, and overseeing recreational programs and activities for residents or participants. This includes coordinating group activities, leisure education, and fostering a sense of community and belonging in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team. The Recreation Coordinator ensures the smooth operation of recreational services by managing scheduling, resources, and staff, which may include Respite Community Assistants, instructors, and other personnel for recreational, music and/or art activities. The Recreation Coordinator works closely with team members to ensure that recreational programs are engaging, accessible, and tailored to meet the diverse needs of all participants, contributing to a holistic approach to care.

The posted hours and location for this position will begin after successfully completing the 30-day training period, which will be held at various locations. Training will take place Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM.

Responsibilities

Essential Functions:

  • Fosters a community of safety, inclusion, and connection in alignment with the Central Health policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of diverse recreational needs, abilities, and preferences across various populations.
  • Coordinates and facilitates recreational programs that meet the needs, interests, and abilities of residents/participants.
  • Develop and oversees recreational activities, including events and group sessions, ensuring accessibility for participants of all abilities.
  • Develops a weekly activity calendar for the respite community, ensuring a variety of engaging and accessible activities for residents/participants.
  • Supervises staff involved in recreational activities, including Respite Community Assistants, instructors, and other personnel, as needed.
  • Develop and updates departmental policies and procedures related to recreational programs.
  • Manages the inventory and procurement of recreational supplies, ensuring the availability of necessary equipment and resources.
  • Develops and conducts the activity assessment for all residents upon admission, ensuring comprehensive evaluation of individual activity need.
  • Schedules and organizes the use of recreational facilities throughout the community.
  • Plans, organizes, and facilitate special events (e.g., weekly resident meetings or community gatherings).
  • Ensures that recreational areas are properly set up for activities, and coordinates with housekeeping to ensure the spaces are cleaned and maintained after use.
  • Engages residents/participants in purposeful recreational activities, promoting social interaction, wellness, and community building.
  • Actively participates in team meetings, case conferencing, and collaborative planning sessions to ensure the integration of recreational programs within the overall care approach.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Communication: Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with residents, interdisciplinary team members, and leadership to ensure the effective delivery of the recreation programs. 
  • Customer Service & Problem Resolution: Ability to address and resolve concerns or challenges presented by residents related to recreation programs in a professional and timely manner. 
  • Confidentiality: Ensure the confidentiality of all resident information, adhering to all privacy and security protocols. 
  • Program Development & Evaluation: Knowledge of how to develop, implement, and evaluate recreation programs that are engaging, and suited to the varying abilities of residents. 
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all recreation activities and assessments comply with local, state, and federal regulations, as well as safety and health standards. 
  • Team Collaboration: Ability to work collaboratively with the interdisciplinary team to develop and implement individualized recreation plans that meet the activity needs of residents. 
  • Crisis Management: Ability to assess situations and manage crises, making quick and informed decisions when necessary. 
  • Cultural Competence: Sensitivity to and understanding of cultural differences, tailoring therapeutic interventions to respect individual backgrounds and preferences. 
  • Adaptability: Ability to adapt recreational programs to meet the diverse needs, interests, and capabilities of the residents, ensuring they remain motivated and engaged in the therapeutic process.

Qualifications

Minimum Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Therapeutic Recreation, Human Services, Social Services, Business Health Administration, or a related field; or 3 years of additional experience in recreation management, event coordination, or a related field in lieu of a degree.

Minimum Experience:

  • 3 years 3 years of experience in recreation management, event coordination, or a related field 
  • Bilingual English/ Spanish. Required

 

Licenses and Certifications:

  • Current or within within 30 days of hire,Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association is required. Employees must maintain current BLS certification throughout their employment.
  • Crisis Intervention and Within the first one (1) month of hire required Within 30 Days Required
  • Food Handling Certification Within the first one (1) month of hire required
