Overview

Central Health is committed to funding and providing quality healthcare services to uninsured individuals withlow incomes who reside in Travis County. The Analytics Data Engineer will play a crucial role in developing and maintaining scalable data pipelines, backend infrastructure, and databases. Responsibilities include reconciling and integrating data from multiple healthcare sources, including medical claims, actuarial data, and electronic health records (including Epic), to ensure data consistency and accuracy. Additionally, this role will design and implement software infrastructure to support machine learning, statistical analysis, model deployment, and data visualization for healthcare projects related to population health, clinical decision support, case management, financial planning, and claims processing.

 

***Hybrid Individuals in this position may work both at an approved off-site location and onsite at a primary location.

Responsibilities

Work closely with Central Health's Joint Tech (IT) team and data scientists to develop and maintain scalable data pipelines, backend infrastructure, and databases. This includes but is not limited to the following: reconcile and integrate data from multiple healthcare sources such as medical claims, EHR data (including Epic), non-medical health needs data, quality measures data, actuarial data, pharmacy data, to ensure consistency; design and implement efficient and robust data pipelines for data ingestion, transformation, and storage; create and optimize the backend infrastructure to interact with databases securely; ensure scalability, reliability, and performance of data processing workflows. Design and implement software infrastructure to support machine learning, statistical analysis, model deployment, and data visualization for healthcare projects related to population health, clinical decision support, case management, claims processing, business intelligence and quality. This entails the following: works closely with healthcare data scientists to translate their requirements into practical applications; implement machine learning models and statistical algorithms, ensuring their accuracy and efficiency; optimize and fine tune models for improved performance and interpretability; set up scalable computing environments, including cloud-based platforms, for model training, evaluation, and deployment. Ensure compliance with security guidelines set forth by Central Health's Joint Technologies, data privacy regulations and data governance measures. Work with security and data governance teams aid in the implementation of security measures and access controls and help develop and enforce data governance frameworks to ensure data quality, integrity, and proper data access controls.
 
  • Document processes, workflows, and system architecture.
  • Produce and streamline ongoing monthly, quarterly and annual reports in support of the enterprise.
  • Become a data subject matter expert (SME) and understand various sources and applications of Central Health data.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
 
 

Qualifications

MINIMUM EDUCATION: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, Economics or a quantitative discipline required.


PREFERRED EDUCATION: Master’s degree from an accredited university in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, Economics or a quantitative discipline preferred.

 

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE:

  • Five (5) years in a healthcare-related data processing role
  • Two (2) years of experience with Python, including Pandas
  • Two (2) years SQL, T-SQL, or a comparable SQL extension language
  • Two (2) years of experience using Tableau or similar visualization tools to create intuitive and interactive visualization

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

  • One (1) year in Git or a comparable version control system
  • One (1) year in a software development or data engineering role
  • One (1) year working with healthcare/ bioinformatics data
  • One (1) year working with medical ontologies such as ICD, SNOMED, HCPCS, CUIs, LOINC, etc
  • One (1) year working in a cloud computing environment
  • One (1) year experience with Pytorch
