Overview

In collaboration with patient, families (as defined by the patient) and staff across all disciplines and departments is responsible for developing, directing, and executing nutrition strategy of the organization. This position will serve as the point of contact for issues related to nutrition and dietitian-led programs within the organization and community-led nutrition initiatives outside the organization.

 

This position is required to be on-site.

Responsibilities

Essential Functions:

  • Serve as a leader, subject matter expert, and contact for other clinical staff, other allied health professionals, and program directors/managers throughout the clinic system for all issues related to nutrition and dietitian-led programs.
  • Manage the Clinical Dietitian staff and all nutrition related projects and programs, productivity, human resource needs, and duties as assigned by leadership.
  • Develops nutrition policies and standards of practice for nutrition related areas.
  • Develops, coordinates, and implements nutrition focused preventative and chronic disease management initiatives and group education classes.
  • Develops and monitors goals and objectives of the Clinical Dietitian Team in order to maintain high quality patient care and outcomes.
  • Performs clinical training for new hires and assesses the need for on-going training and education for all clinical nutrition team members.
  • Develop standards of clinical dietetic performance and monitoring, as well as, performance improvement plans and goals.
  • Builds and/or manages content for low-literacy patient education materials and presents to the Clinical Patient Education Work Group based on current literature and evidence-based practice.
  • Implements, participates, and monitors quality control programs and applies principles of data collection and basic research methodology as indicated in project/service delivery.
  • Provides guidance for nutrition documentation in electronic health record development and maintenance related to specialty care needs.
  • Coordinate the Clinical Dietitian and dietetic student schedules to meet clinic system and program needs
  • Develop, participate, and manage special projects/programs, including in services, as needed.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Manages employees, provides timely feedback, develops for strategic planning for department, monitors productivity, and manages staffing needs.
  • Practice as a nutrition content specialist, mentor, and leader for the clinical nutrition team
  • High level of skill at building relationships and providing excellent customer service with employees, patients, and staff
  • Computer systems knowledge, including Microsoft Office products, the use of electronic medical records, and data management..
  • Ability to complete anthropometric measurement, interpret biochemical markers, identify clinical signs and symptoms, identify deficits in diet and/or environment and offer corrective plans and appropriate referrals to other departments as needed. Completes nutrition assessments and develops care plans for specialty patients.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Develop specialized nutrition programming with specialty clinics including interdisciplinary programs, group nutrition classes/programs, and preventative services.
  • Ability to examine and evaluate the need for DSME services and programs.
  • Demonstrated excellent project management skills
  • Ability to facilitate patient access across the healthcare continuum.
  • Supervises the development of nutrition specific content for patient education based on need due to literacy, special needs, and social determinants of health.
  • Develop and maintain favorable internal relationships, partnerships with co-workers
  • Have excellent verbal and written communication skills and customer service skills
  • Ensure all actions, job performance, personal conduct and communications to always represent Central Health in a highly professional manner.
  • Ensure that all training and associated tasks comply with all regulatory and accreditation standards including The Joint Commission and Central Health Standard Operating Procedures and Central Health Policies and Procedures.
  • Extensive knowledge of medical/pharmaceutical terms and nomenclature

Qualifications

Minimum Education: Bachelor's Degree in Nutrition or Dietetics

 

Minimum Experience:

  • Five (5) years of experience as a Registered Dietitian in a clinical or community setting with specialized medical care (neurology, gastroenterology, endocrinology, cardiology, nephrology, pulmonology, and/or wound care)

Required Licenses and Certifications:

  • RD - Registered Dietician from the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) Upon Hire
  • CNSC - Certified Nutrition Support Clinician (CNSC) by the American Society of Enteral and Parenteral Nutrition OR CDE - Current board specialization as a Certified Diabetes Educator certification (CDE) from the National Certification Board for Diabetes Educators Upon Hire
  • BCLS - Basic Life Support Current BLS Certification through American Heart Association or American Red Cross. Upon Hire
  • Current license in the state of Texas as a Licensed Dietitian (LD). Upon Hire
  • Certified in Obesity and Weight Management by the Commission on Dietetic Registration Upon Hire
