Overview

The Insurance Specialist is responsible for assisting with maintaining the insurance portfolio for multiple insurance carriers, maintaining knowledge of internal insurance coverage and their coverage requirements, maintaining the insurance list of coverage, and maintaining accurate records. This role requires a keen understanding of insurance policies, excellent communication skills, and attention to detail.

Responsibilities

Essential Functions:

  • Assist with the review and analysis of insurance policies to ensure they meet business needs and compliance requirements.
  • Handle and process insurance claims, ensuring all necessary documentation is collected and accurately filed.
  • Review and analyze insurance policies to ensure they meet client needs and compliance requirements.
  • Investigate claims.
  • Communicate with the broker, and carriers to resolve claims efficiently.
  • Provide exceptional customer service by addressing internal and external inquiries, concerns, and requests.
  • Educate internally on policy features, coverage limits, and claim procedures.
  • Assist with policy renewals, changes, and cancellations.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of all insurance policies, claims, and broker and carriers interactions.
  • Maintain insurance certificates, endorsements, and policy documents.
  • Stay updated on changes in insurance regulations and industry standards.
  • Gather and analyze data to support underwriting decisions.
  • Participate in ongoing training and professional development to stay current with industry trends and best practices.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Insurance Policies and Coverage: Understanding various types of insurance policies (e.g., health, life, auto, property, and casualty) and coverage options.
  • Insurance Regulations: Familiarity with federal and state insurance laws and regulations. 
  • Risk Management: Knowledge of risk assessment and management principles. 
  • Claims Processes: Understanding the procedures for filing, processing, and managing insurance claims.
  • Underwriting Principles: Knowledge of the principles and practices of underwriting. 
  • Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills for interacting with clients, insurers, and other stakeholders.
  • Detail-Oriented: Precision in reviewing insurance documents and handling claims to ensure accuracy.
  • Time Management: Efficiently managing time and prioritizing tasks to handle multiple claims. 
  • Interpersonal Skills: Building and maintaining positive relationships with clients, colleagues, and insurance providers.
  • Confidentiality: Maintaining confidentiality and handling sensitive information with discretion.

Qualifications

Minimum Education:

Associate's Degree Finance, Business, or a related field is required

 

Minimum Work Experience: 

4 years experience in insurance industry or related field
