Overview

The cardiologist's role encompasses comprehensive cardiac care, provided through in-person visits, video visits, e-consults, and e-reviews in an outpatient clinic. They will also be involved in supervising and/or conducting various non-invasive diagnostic procedures, such as echocardiograms, stress echocardiography, exercise treadmill stress testing, holter and event monitors, based on clinical indications. In addition to patient care, this position emphasizes teaching and mentorship as integral components of the care model. The cardiologist will actively participate in, and even lead, initiatives aimed at building programs focused on cardiovascular disease processes and prevention. Working in a multi-specialty clinical environment, collaboration with other specialties will be vital for providing comprehensive care. Moreover, the cardiologist may have the responsibility of overseeing the practice of advanced practice providers to ensure cohesive and effective patient management.

Responsibilities

Essential Functions
Plans, promotes, demonstrates, recommends, and coordinates high standards of medical practice in the specialty
practice of Cardiology.
Provides Cardiology care to primary care and referred patients, diagnosing and treating disorders and diseases of
the cardiovascular system.
Examines patients, formulates diagnostic plans, and defines and orders required diagnostic testing. Prescribes
medicine, conducts early detection screenings, and coordinates referrals as needed.
Communicates effectively with patients, physicians, staff, and administration, ensuring culturally and
linguistically appropriate interactions with patients.
Demonstrates expertise in relevant medical practices, protocols, trends, and best practices in assigned clinical
areas, effectively effecting overall clinical operations.
Possesses proficiency in the use of a computer, software packages, and office machines, working within the
scope of credentialing privileges.
Prepares and reviews medical histories and obtains data through interviews, determining the need for
consultation and assisting in medical care and treatment provided at the direction of other specialists.
Participates in other care procedures according to training and demonstrated ability, including interviewing
patients, obtaining patient history, and updating all information and documents in EHR according to standards.
Essential Functions
Demonstrates the ability to supervise, advise, and train clinical professionals and/or students in the area of
expertise, providing consultation to nurses and clinical staff.
Consults with other staff physicians and para-medical personnel regarding medical management of patients and
common Cardiology problems encountered in the clinic, conferring on the planning and direction of the primary
care team in relation to the specialty area of Cardiology.
As clinically indicated, supervises and/or performs non-invasive procedures, including echocardiograms, stress
echocardiography, exercise treadmill stress testing, holter, and event monitors.
Performs other duties as assigned, actively participating and/or leading initiatives for program building for
cardiovascular services.

Qualifications

Education Details Required/
Preferred
MD or DO from an accredited medical school Required and Completion of a Residency in Internal Medicine Required and Completion of an Accredited Fellowship in Cardiovascular Disease

 

Licenses/Certifications Licenses/Certification 

Unrestricted licensed to practice Cardiology (Medicine) in the State of Texas Required
Board Certification by the American Board of Internal Medicine and American Board of cardiovascular disease Required
DEA - Narcotics License Current Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) number for the purpose of writing prescriptions Required
Basic Life Support (BLS) Current Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification for Healthcare Providers from
the American Heart Association or the American Red Cross Required
Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation
(CPR) Current Healthcare Provider Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) from
the American Heart Association or the American Red Cross Required
Board certification in echocardiography Preferred
