  • Overview

    This position is responsible for performing day-to-day community and member outreach activities for the health plan. Key responsibilities include following up on sales leads through inbound and outbound calls as well as scheduling/attending presentations and events to achieve strong working relationships within the community and promote membership growth and retention for the health plan. This position works closely with affiliated organizations and a wide range of community organizations.

    Responsibilities

    Essential Duties:



    • Under the direction of the Director of Business Development, assists with implementation of the community relations program to achieve strong working relationships within the community and to increase membership for the health plan.

    • Maintains a current level of knowledge of all insurance product lines and industry changes

    • Educate current or prospective members about benefits and plans through inbound or outbound phone calls and presentations in the community. 

    • Develop a Book of Business to collect and manage sales leads throughout the service area

    • Assist members and prospective members with plan benefit questions and enrollment for new sales and retention of exiting members.

    • Develop collaborative working relationships with community organizations, governmental agencies, nonprofit organizations and neighborhood groups.

    • Participate in health plan and community events such as health fairs and charity runs as needed

    • Perform other duties as assigned


     


    Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:



    • Solid understanding of medical care delivery and local market dynamics in the STAR, CHIP and ACA insurance lines of business

    • Strong interpersonal skills with ability to interface effectively both internally and externally with a wide range of people including community representative and other health plan staff

    • Excellent conflict and problem solving skills with effective follow through

    • Strong listening, verbal, presentation and written communication skills

    • Knowledge of community relations programs within a managed care setting is strongly preferred

    • Ability to work evenings and weekends 

    • Proficiency with Word, Excel, Power Point and use of internet

    • Fluency in English and Spanish preferred, but not required

    Qualifications

    MINIMUM EDUCATION:



    • Associate degree or a combination of experience and education in a related field


     


    MINIMUM EXPERIENCE:



    • At least 1 year of community outreach experience

    • At least 1 year of managed care experience 

    • At least 1 year experience in a sales or marketing environment


     


    PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:



    • Familiarity with the local community in the service area is strongly preferred


     


    PREFERRED CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURE:



    • Valid TX Driver’s License
